Dark Legacy: Bright Lights of Black Broadway

Celebrate the music of early black composers,lyricists and performers of Broadway and their influence on other composers who wrote for the black experience. You will hear music of early black composers like Scott Joplin, Bert Williams, Noble Sissle, Eubie Blake, and others who laid a formidable foundation in American music written for Black Broadway. Their songs such as “Nobody”, “I’m Just Wild About Harry”, “Love Will Find a Way”, and “Some of These Days” (to name a few) have become an immortal part of the Great American Songbook. Miss Ingram shares how their rich and many times dark legacy influenced composers and lyricists who followed in their footsteps, writing for the black experience for both stage and film, up until the present day ~ composers, such as; Gershwin/Heyward, Arlen/Mercer, Flaherty/Ahrens, and more.
