LIVE at the Garden [Revisited]: Elton John
If you were lucky enough to score a ticket to see Elton in concert at Madison Square Garden on Thanksgiving evening, 1974, you left the with memories that will last a lifetime.
Of course, you saw a stellar performance from the pianist at the peak of his game, and that would usually be more than plenty. But that night you also bore witness to one of rock music’s most memorable guest walk-ons when John Lennon came on stage to perform three songs with (in Lennon’s words) “Elton and the boys” part-way through the show.
Regrettably, this appearance by the former Beatle became even more poignant as it was his last true concert (save for some television performances) before his death in 1980.
